Dark Souls 2 will offer more freedom for ‘brave’ players

FREEEEEEEDOM

When more details surrounding Dark Souls 2 were revealed, fans were a little uneasy about the mention of the game being more “accessible” to newcomers. Dammit, if they had suffered in the first game, then newbies should die painfully and horribly as well! Turns out, they had nothing to really worry about. And if they’re really brave or completely insane, they can start the game from the halfway point with a untested meatbag.

In Dark Souls 2, players are going to have a ton more freedom when it comes to exploring that world, part of the changes that From Software is implementing to make the title more friendly to beginners and veterans.

"We’re hoping that if the player tries hard enough, or are willing enough, they could even start halfway through the game, depending on how willing or how brave they are," director Yui Tanimura said to Digital Spy.

We realize in Dark Souls there were some certain orders, like ringing the bells or going to Anor Londo, which is not necessarily a bad thing. In Dark Souls II, we’re hoping we can provide more freedom so things don’t have to necessarily be done in a certain order.

And that, in a nutshell, is Dark Souls. If there’s one thing that isn’t being changed, it’s the fact that you’re going to be dying over and over and over again. But being thrown face-first into a sea of high-level enemies who are going to turn your skull into a toilet once they’re done with you? That’s pure Dark Souls.

I still played the game at E3, and it was exactly all that and a bag of suffering.

  1. This makes me happy, Very Happy. This is the same as in DS 1 if you choose the Master Key as a starting gift you have access to off limit areas very early on. I thought DS 1 already had tons of freedom, guess I’m in for a lot of surprises, easily my most anticipated game so far, honestly there is nothing like the Souls games, one of the best series’ to emerge this gen

Same here buddy … Very excited for next gen but it can’t compare to the anticipation of this title. Was watching the gameplay trailers again and was just in awe at the level with all those wyverns …. I need this yesterday already

Exactly! A bash is putting it lightly more like a beating with a steel bat

Yeah. If you were playing online it would try to save to the cloud, and if you then turned your console off it corrupted the file. OVG was on level 90 and had his save fiule die on him. You probably remember that massive Hurrican Katrina thing, that was his rage!

Yes, that is one thing. He raged that we couldn’t back them up, and I agree. It left loads of people hating the game for the wrong reasons. He never went back to it. But then after 100 hours and the thing corrupts I wouldn’t either…

Game Save Manager is your friend. The tears I shed when my hdd crashed & I lost 3 full playthroughs of ME1 just before ME2 was released.

Havent touched Dark Souls yet, but thanks to PS+ I got a copy last month. I just need to wait for old lovely telkom to upgrade the silly landline to DSL (only moved in on the 1st :/) then I can finally find out why everyone is still bleeding from the inside about this. That being said, it does look flipping gorgeous though.

There are no brave players in Dark Souls, only uneducated or wise & afraid.
