Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 is no more

Gearbox’s Brothers in Arms games have always been pretty serious business; mostly historically accurate, tactics focused first person shooters that were more than just slightly based on the TV series Band of Brothers. It’s what made Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 so infuriating for fans. It ditched pretty much every iota of realism, replacing it instead with a comical co-operative gameplay style that was more of a cartoony, comical take on Inglourious Basterds. It’s the sort of about-turn that pisses fans right off – but it looks like Gearbox has come to its senses.

The reason it even got made in the first place is that publisher Ubisoft was demanding a sequel – but Gearbox had run out of ideas on how to expand upon Brothers in Arms, settling on the crazy ideas put in place for Furious 4. It didn;t go down well at all, with fans saying that Brothers in Arms was officially dead to them.  Gearbox has decided that the game is so far removed from Brothers in Arms, that that they’ll be releasing it as a new IP – ditching the Brothers in Arms name. It’ll help them branch out and go completely mental with their own ideas – free from the restrains of the Brothers in Arms name.

"Our Pokémon has evolved," Randy Pitchford told Kotaku. "It has different powers.

those powers include the game becoming a multi-genre hybrid – not entirely unlike Borderlands. I think this is a great decision. It’s pretty wonderful that neither Ubisoft or Gearbox are continuing to try cash in on an established name. When we saw Furious 4 at E3 last year, it looked like a bunch of silly, big dumb fun. Hopefully, unshackled from the licence, it’ll be bigger, dumber and tons more fun.
