Bioware still wants to make another Jade Empire

Kung-Pow

Ten years. Ten long years since Bioware released their greatest game, Jade Empire. Also, YEAH YOU HEARD ME. Martial arts fantasy action will always be better than Dragon Age or Mass Effect, and if you disagree with me than I’ll gladly practice my face-to-fist kung fu techniques on the striking parts of your body. Only one Jade Empire game was ever made, with no hint whatsoever of a sequel since then. Is the title dead then? Maybe not just yet, as there’s always some hope that the Jade Empire may be revisited.

“Well there’s always hope,” general manager of BioWare Edmonton and Montreal Aaryn Flynn said to Kotaku.

Both [Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah] and [Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw] worked on Jade Empire, so they’re advocates for it in the studio (so is Matt Goldman, DAI‘s Art Director). I worked on it too! Our plate is awfully full right now, but the idea to go back to the universe does come up pretty regularly. Mark and I spent a solid two hours in my office talking about it not long ago…

I’ve got a lot of love for that franchise. In many ways, it was the perfect character building game, filled with various kung fu styles and disciplines from which to mix and match and create the ultimate ass-kicker. Hell, my own in-game character was a combination of lightning quick strikes and stone skin that rendered him impervious to damage until the most inconvenient moment, of course.

Thing is, I belive that Bioware wants to make a sequel. But they just don’t have the staff or manpower right now. With Mass Effect, Dragon Age and a new IP on their plates, the staff just isn’t there. Yet. And right now, with China becoming a massive and dominant economic force, the time is right to revive Jade Empire. Just hopefully not as a free-to-play online only game, which seems to be the trend.

Hell, I’d even pony up for Jade Empire: Remastered at this rate.

A difficult list Sir Spathi. Truly.

Baldurs Gate 1 just not as cool as 2, something about high level AD&D characters, done well.

I judge Baldur’s Gate as a whole, because of the story that runs through both and the expansion to two. But yes, actually my preference would be Baldur’s Gate > the rest of their library 😉

      Mass Effect > HL3 > Star Citizen > KotOR.

And yes it is a bigger picture version. 😛

I couldn’t get into Jade Empire. I loved Bioware RPGs and it looked so cool, and after about three hours I was done with it.
