MiD goes MIA – Local Xbox 360 Distributors Liquidated

 - June 30th, 2009
MI Digital, the much maligned local distributor of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, seems to have shut its doors for good – Leaving the country without a distribution channel for the console, its accessories, and first-party titles; Fan favourite games such as Gears of War, ... [»]

Pachter : Sony Will Wrest 2nd Place from Microsoft

 - June 30th, 2009
I love analysts - professional guessers, if you like. They sift through graphs, sales data, industry goings-on , poring over every minute detail – and then make stuff up. Back in primary school, we called such people “liars,” but now that we’re all grown up they have a much nicer designation. My ... [»]

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince Launch Trailer

 - June 30th, 2009
I am a huge Harry Potter fan and am really looking forward to the new movie which is arriving at a cinema near you next month. However it has to be said that the previous Harry Potter games haven’t lived up to the movies hype or my personal high expectations, it’s not that they were really bad but I just expect so much more. Will this iteration be any ... [»]

Durban Pirates Nailed, Ninjas Unharmed.

 - June 30th, 2009
Whilst sipping my coffee and eating my cucumber sandwiches (with the crusts cut off, of course) I came across a post by MooDy on the local Xbox 360 forums. It details what, according to the accompanying press release, is the country’s first ever conviction of a video game pirate. The brigand in question, one Muhammed Baber, ran “Game Zone,” a videogame store in the uShaka Marine World in Durban. We say “ran” because after a raid on the store orchestrated by the Department of Trade and Industry and SAFACT, the dastardly buccaneer’s digital contraband – primarily PC games - has been confiscated. In addition to that, he’s been sentenced to 1 years imprisonment or a R20 000 fine – Unfortunately, it seems walking the plank is no longer a suitable punishment. This sets a precedent for the country, and will hopefully go some ways to eradicating ... [»]

Revisiting Our Uncharted Casting Call

 - June 30th, 2009
You may recall that around about a year ago, I used to put together a weekly feature called Casting Call. In the Casting Calls, I set out to pick popular videogames that had not yet been made into movies, and then take a crack at looking at which actors/actresses could fill the roles of the different characters in the movie. Anyone who was on the site on Friday will also know that it has now been confirmed that an Uncharted movie is on the way. The ... [»]

PS3 Exclusive “Shatter” Looking Really Addictive

 - June 30th, 2009
Shatter is a brand new Arkenoid-type breakout game for the Playstation 3 and will be available exclusively on PSN. Games like these come and go but this one looks quite special and from what I have heard and seen, it's looking pretty awesome and is apparently addictive as can be. The presentation of the game is also quite nifty and the controls also give you the ability to suck in and blow out objects with your paddles, mixing the original format somewhat and adding a new angle to the gameplay. No release date or pricing has ... [»]

For some reason the videogame industry is peppered with people who have opinions, and want them known.
