| | Xbox Live Activity – 17th March 2008 | Lazygamer - March 27th, 2008 | I haven't checked back on the Xbox Live activity since Halo recaptured it's crown a few months ago. However I thought it was about time to take another look to see if we have any new suprises.... and we don't. Call of Duty 4 has retaken the top spot from Halo 3 which is now in second and Guitar Hero III has stabilised in third. On the Arcade game front we have Brain Challenge winning (I haven't even played this?) followed by Doom (I refuse) ... | PlayStation Network Hacked | Lazygamer - March 27th, 2008 | It seems like someone has managed to break into the Australian and New Zealand version of the PSN and has possibly gotten hold of some users personal details. There is no work on exactly how it happened but it is obviously a worry and if they got into that database there is no reason why they cannot do the ... | Sonic and The Secret Rings – Reviewed – Wii | Gavin Mannion - March 27th, 2008 | By Philip Dunkley When Sonic and the Secret Rings arrived for review last week, I nearly began having convulsions and wanted to tell Gavin that I had some serious illness that would take me out of reviewing for the next few weeks, and that he would have to review it. This was all because of Sonic’s last adventure on the Xbox360 and PS3, just called Sonic the Hedgehog. That game had to be one of the worst games I’d ever played, so I was rather sceptical about this one, understandably so. Needless to say, I popped the shiny little disc into the tray after contemplating using it for a coaster for a while, and voila, up she booted, and I can tell you now, it’s nowhere near as bad as the last outing. It’s not great, but it’s one hell of a step in the right direction. The story goes a little something like ... [»] |

| Zero Punctuation: Zack & Wiki | Gavin Mannion - March 27th, 2008 | This week Yahtzee reviews Zack & Wiki, an adventure game on the Wii. It got me thinking really, adventure games have all but disappeared recently and it really is a loss as I remember wasting away many hours behind Police Quest and the like. I found Lost to be similar in some regards to those games but Zack & Wiki sounds like another good option as well... I must go and see if it is available in SA yet. | CokeFest and Gaming – Story | Gavin Mannion - March 26th, 2008 | By Philip Dunkley I would like to give some background to this story before I even start with the actual meat of it. Firstly, I know that the 5FM Coke Fest Concert has nothing to do with gaming, but music and games are closely linked. Secondly, I have had hardly any sleep in the last few nights due to loads of parties and a large amount of booze. Thirdly, I am definitely getting old; I just cannot last for 14 hours on my feet trying to rock out to some of the world’s best bands, drinking warm beer and getting covered in mud. That said, this is what I’m going ... [»] |

| Xbox price cut fails in Europe – Should Microsoft panic? | Gavin Mannion - March 26th, 2008 | So Microsoft recently slashed the price of the Xbox 360 in Europe and in South Africa to help alleviate flagging sales. The PS3 has recently been beating the 360 in all European territories except the UK and this cut was planned to overturn that and to propel the 360 into the minds of all gamers just in time for GTA IV... But has it worked. Well apparently not, the first true post price cut sales are in and Microsoft will be crying. Lets get to the numbers Wii - 113,921PS3 - 74,638360 - 68,542 So not only has the 360 not received a huge increase it sales, it hasn't even received enough to overtake the PS3 and ... [»] |

| Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 – Reviewed – XBOX360 | Gavin Mannion - March 26th, 2008 | By Philip Dunkley I know this review is really late, but we kind of discovered it at the bottom of the draw the other day, and realised that we had not reviewed this, so we apologise terribly (Lazy: Mainly me since it was my draw), and will give you a quick summary of the game, as I do believe it’s worth the money. To EA, we apologise that this has not been reviewed earlier, it will not happen again. There is not too much depth one can go into on a game like this, as it’s generally a natural progression from one release to another. Golf is really golf at the end of the day, and being an avid player of both the real sport and the console kind, I generally enjoy these titles and spend more time than I should playing them.It has the usual amount of professional players that one would expect, and a healthy ... | Sacred 2 – Developer Diary | Gavin Mannion - March 26th, 2008 | By Simon Truempler People say game developers work in windowless rooms, have no social contacts to speak of, and know women only from hearsay. Every single one of them bridges the 4 inch distance to the screen with 2 inch bifocals - thanks to good ol' Franklin. With that tool developers may not only glance efficiently from screen to pulp to computer mags, oh no, their hands have to leave the keyboard only to push a piece of pizza into the gaping hole in their face. This efficiency is incredibly important, because it's a well known fact that everybody involved in the production of a game is a programmer. The game designers program the game's story. The graphic artists program the graphics. The programmers write green code, which runs down on the screen, and even the marketing department programs ads for games mags, movie theatres and TV like mad.Entering the industry, however, I ... | Unreal Tournament III – Reviewed – PC | Gavin Mannion - March 26th, 2008 | By Rob Hill Classic first person shooters have been around since the days of Doom in 1993 and with a few exceptions have stuck to one solid formula – chaos and carnage induced fragging. Of late, however, things have become a little fancier with the event of more sophisticated AI, better latencies and bigger bandwidth. When Unreal Tournament came out ... [»] |
