| | FIFA ’08 will thrash PES7 | Gavin Mannion - May 29th, 2007 | In one of the most suprising statements made this year the marketing manager of EA has come out and stated that Fifa 2008 is going to be better than PES 7... Yeah maybe he isn't the most independent source on the planet but he may have a point... "I'm happy to say that we're comfortably on top in the whole FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer battle," I have been playing PES6 recently and I unfortunately have to admit that I have been completely underwhelmed. I knew the graphics where going to be bad before I got it but I was very excited about the gameplay. Maybe I am just missing something but the ... [»] |

| Microsoft: Keeping Sweaty 360s In Check – Kotaku | Gavin Mannion - May 29th, 2007 | Just spotted on Kotaku.com... What is that strange black box on that 360 Premium? Well after a closer inspection it turns out to be a Xbox branded thermometer. Now how is that for having confidence in your product :) Obviously the reports of the 360 being more stable now are not entirely accurate. I wonder if Microsoft are going to start marketing that in the ... [»] |

| Nintendo smashes records again | Gavin Mannion - May 29th, 2007 | Can Nintendo do anything wrong at the moment? At a recent press conference Reggie Fils-Aime (COO of Nintendo America) had this to say “Only twice has one company simultaneously had the No. 1 new hardware console, the No. 1 portable console, the No. 1-selling game and been the No. 1 overall software publisher,†he said in an interview here. “The first time was Nintendo in the ’80s. The second time is Nintendo now.†Putting that into context do you remember the Gamecube from the ... [»] |

| Leaked Warhawk problems and compliments | Gavin Mannion - May 29th, 2007 | Despite Sony's iron clad NDA's that all Warhawk beta users had to agree to more and more information is being leaked about this game. This time the news isn't that good. Last night, for instance, I was getting about five minutes of play between rebooting the system, waiting for the game to launch, finding a server to play on and join. Ouch, it seems there ... [»] |

| Australian sales chart | Gavin Mannion - May 29th, 2007 | So I thought it might be time to see what our 'friends' in Australia are playing 1. God of War II (PS2) 2. C&C Tiberium Wars (360) 3. Singstar Rocks! Bundle (PS2) 4. C&C Tiberium Wars (PC/MAC) 5. Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3) 6. Dr Kawashima's Brain Train (DS) 7. Diddy Kong Racing (DS) 8. ... [»] |

| Home Beta Hands On | Gavin Mannion - May 29th, 2007 | The PlayStation Universe site as a nice indepth review of the upcoming PlayStation Home... Home still has lots of exciting features yet to come, but even now it's great fun to play around in. Home will surely be a defining factor in the console war, and we're certainly looking forward to its official launch ... [»] |

| Blu-ray versus HD DVD another opinion | Gavin Mannion - May 28th, 2007 | The Sydney Morning Herald has a very interesting article on their website at the moment about the blu-ray / hd-dvd battle... While they are saying that there is nothing in the race at the moment and both are tied they do seem to be leaning over to the hd-dvd side with some of their comments. Some of the interesting things that I found out today, Wal-Mart itself accounts for 45% of all DVD sales in the entire US.... they sell DVD's at a loss to entice people into the stores. Not the most original idea but it's obviously working well for them. Oh the other rumour is that Wal-Mart are planning to sell ... [»] |

| PS3 Game Upscaling – Where? | Gavin Mannion - May 28th, 2007 | Original Upscaled Now I am the first to admit that I don't really know to much about all this upscaling nonsense but I really can't see much different in the pictures above. IGN has a whole pile of screenshots through the link and it really wouldn't have mattered which one I picked as I can't see the difference in any of them. Except the first but I think that is a lighting problem. Anyway could someone please point out the difference for me? ... [»] |

| PS3 has better quality games than the Xbox 360 | Gavin Mannion - May 28th, 2007 | The Sony Protection Group, which is obviously completely unbiased, has come out and made a graph comparing the percentages of quality titles on each of the consoles.... It is not suprising to see the PS3 winning in this chart, what is suprising though is that they claim to have taken the information from Metacritic.com which is a truly non-biased organisation. what we can see from the graph is that when you buy a PS3 you have more chance of a quality game than from any other console, ... | Sony preparing for Halo 3 release in September | Gavin Mannion - May 28th, 2007 | Sony has actually officially realised that Halo 3 is going to give the PS3 some real trouble in September. Not to be outdone though they have put together a pack of exclusives to ruin Microsofts fun... Sony has now said that they are going to challenge this upcoming gaming title which can potentially change the market scenario for both the company by launching some Playstation 3 exclusives. With Ratchet & Clank, Lair, Heavenly Sword and Pain coming out near September it makes an ... [»] |

| Wii to be released 10 August – We hope | Gavin Mannion - May 25th, 2007 | www.ninty.co.za has noticed that the Wii has come up for pre-order from BT Games with an expected delivery date of the 10th of August... Well I contacted Shannon from BT Games to confirm the date and the all important distributor issue and received a response. Basically the date is unfortunately still estimated and things where looking very good for a release on the 10th up until Wednesday, but once again since everyone else on the planet won't stop buying the thing Nintendo has run into stock problems again. Obviously they are going to try and keep up with the huge demand from the zones they have already released in before expanding their footprint so for now let's hope for an increase in manufacturing.... In regard to the distributor nothing has been confirmed yet but it still looks like ... [»] |

| Warhawk Beta Video | Gavin Mannion - May 25th, 2007 | So as most of you know that Warhawk beta is currently running and obviously that means leaked footage for you and me :) Take a look at the video above which seems to show a new stage and some awesome gameplay footage... The huge turrets look like a lot of fun as well. It's a pity that there isn't enough people in the game for some real action and the mid air fights look a little unwieldy but it is a beta remember. Oh and did you see the crackdown style hanging ... [»] |

| Success in getting a cracked disc replaced – Xbox 360 | Gavin Mannion - May 25th, 2007 | So even after getting confirmation from Microsoft that South Africa is covered it seems there is still confusion over the Disc Replacement Policy for the Xbox 360. One of my readers was kind enough to send me through an email this morning detailing his attempt at getting his Gears of War disc replaced... After his Gears of War disc was cracked he contacted Xbox support who told him that South Africa is not covered under this policy. Not to be dettered he put the disc and his completed form into an envelope and shipped it off to Xbox... A couple of weeks later and he gets a notification that a package is waiting for ... [»] |
